Ivy Drives Energy Transition in Argentina, Brazil and Chile with transformative results

Ivy is pleased to announce the successful completion of its regional project aimed at strengthening the national narratives of Argentina, Brazil and Chile to support their energy transition processes. This ambitious initiative addressed political, structural, technological and socioeconomic challenges, while reinforcing key initiatives led by civil society, academia and the private sector in these countries.

Project Highlights
The project, led by experts such as Project Director Ramón Méndez Galain and Senior Energy Sector Specialist Alfonso Blanco, supported collaborative actions with local actors such as ISCI (University of Chile), ICS Brazil, the Argentine Renewable Energy Chamber (CADER), among others. The initiative fostered partnerships to amplify the role of renewable energies in the decarbonization of regional economies.

Key findings include:

  • Argentina: Collaborations with the private sector, including workshops with the Argentine Center of Engineers (CAI) and CADER, resulted in concrete advances. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed with CADER, enabling Ivy’s inclusion in the global RE100 Advisory Council. This partnership plans to publish a report on renewable energy business models in 2025 and assist in planning tools to integrate renewables into Argentina’s national energy system.
  • Chile: Ivy collaborated with ISCI to exchange best practices, contributing to regulatory frameworks and market strategies. Outreach sessions were held with ANESCO Chile to explore self-generation and energy efficiency mechanisms. Collaboration with local academia produced guidelines to address future regulatory challenges.
  • Brazil: Ivy supported ICS Brazil in diplomatic capacity building, focusing specifically on energy diplomacy aligned with COP 30. Partnerships mobilized youth, rural communities and businesses to advocate for energy transition.

Impact and Communication Campaigns
A multi-segmented digital media plan targeted government decision-makers, businesses, communities and youth in all three countries, with campaigns highlighting the benefits of renewable energy for decarbonization and economic development. Campaigns also addressed coal-dependent communities in Chile and emphasized energy security in Brazil. The public conversation was monitored using artificial intelligence to assess the reach and impact of the messages.

Challenges and Lessons Learned
The project faced challenges, particularly in Argentina, where the government’s position on climate change required adjusting the narrative. Nevertheless, significant progress was made, such as the initial use of renewable energy planning tools with the Secretariat of Energy and the establishment of a collaborative framework with provincial governments in Cordoba.

Among the main lessons learned are:

  • The importance of implementing safeguards to address internal political dynamics and market constraints.
  • The need to define collaboration spaces with local partners in advance to ensure cohesive interventions.

Next Steps
Building on these successes, Ivy will continue to support regional energy transitions through:

  • The expansion of partnerships under the RE100 framework in Argentina.
  • Co-authoring a publication on private-to-private renewable energy business models.
  • Strengthening regional networks of influence in Chile, Brazil and beyond, leveraging partnerships with ISCI and ICS.

“Our work has demonstrated the power of collaboration to advance renewable energy adoption and decarbonization efforts,” commented Ramón Méndez Galain. “We look forward to continuing to contribute to sustainable energy transitions throughout the region.”
