Alfonso Blanco
Director of Operations
He holds a degree in Mechanical Industrial Engineering from Universidad de la República Oriental del Uruguay (UdelaR) and an MBA from Universidad ORT Uruguay. He holds graduate studies in Economics, as well as an Executive Certificate in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School.
He is considered an opinion leader in energy and environmental issues, author of technical articles of reference in the region and a professional with wide international recognition. This trajectory is backed by more than 20 years of experience in leadership positions and at the head of transformational processes throughout the sector in Uruguay and LAC.
As an expert in Energy and Environment, his experience includes strategic advice in areas such as energy regulation, public policy, energy diplomacy, climate change, project development and evaluation, as well as financing models for energy transitions.
Until March 2023, he was the Executive Director of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), first elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2019. In his regional role, he promoted innovative initiatives for the energy development of OLADE member countries, promoting the role and prominence of the organization in regional energy integration, strengthening sectoral information systems and supporting the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean.
He is currently a Senior International Consultant for the World Bank, the IDB and companies in the energy sector. He has been a consultant for CAF, United Nations and GIZ on energy and environmental issues and was one of the leaders in the transformation process of the energy sector in Uruguay, leading the design of energy efficiency and biomass policies.
