Uruguay-Guatemala Exchange
On Wednesday, June 30, a discussion on the Uruguayan experience in solid waste management was held with the participation of Martín Méndez (President of AIDIS Guatemala), Ramón Méndez (Ivy Director) and Alejandro Nario (Ivy Project Coordinator).
The activity, co-organized by the International Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (AIDIS Guatemala) and Asociación Ivy, was an opportunity to exchange experiences with emphasis on the process of regulating the use of plastic bags and the integrated waste management law in Uruguay.
Both experiences, led by Nario in his role as Uruguay’s national environmental director (2015-2020), allowed for learning in multiple dimensions. The presentation focused on the relevance of the social promotion of good environmental practices, legislative gradualism and the process of exchange with civil society during the drafting of the regulations, among other aspects.
The activity was well attended and a link was established for the development of future joint actions.
